CAJ Seeks Prompt Release of Jailed Journalists in Burkina Faso.

On March 24, National Security Council intelligence officials detained Guezouma Sanogo, head of the Association of Burkinabe Journalists (AJB), his deputy Boukari Ouoba, and Luc Pagbelguem, a reporter for the private television station BFI.

The Congress of African Journalist (CAJ) strongly condemned the Burkinabe authorities’ conduct, urging them to release the journalists immediately and respect journalistic freedom.

Sanogo and Ouoba were detained after speaking out against increasing violations of press freedom during the AJB Congress.

Pagbelguem’s detention followed his media outlet’s coverage of the congress, during which Sanogo also fought for the release of four other journalists who were kidnapped and conscripted into the military in 2024.

“We demand that Burkinabe authorities promptly liberate the journalists who have been jailed and guarantee that journalists and media outlets may function without hindrance,” stated CAJ President Christopher Isiguzo.
