Amazon, the leading e-commerce company, is said to have made a last-minute offer to purchase TikTok’s operations in the United States, the widely-used but contentious Chinese short video application.

Amazon’s interest in TikTok is in line with its strategic objectives to improve its social shopping and advertising functions. Analysts suggest that acquiring TikTok could be advantageous for Amazon’s advertising and e-commerce sectors in the long run, considering TikTok’s high levels of user engagement.
Notably, even though Amazon has shown interest, the report indicates that the bid is not being regarded seriously by those involved. This development occurs as prominent US investment firms such as Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Blackstone are said to be in discussions to invest in TikTok’s operations in the United States.
In reality, numerous other firms and investment groups are keen on purchasing TikTok’s operations in the United States. For instance, Perplexity AI has recently proposed to acquire TikTok, intending to make its algorithm open-source and enhance user personalization.
However, the Chinese government’s position on whether to approve such a sale is still unclear, which complicates the situation further.
